Pond brought their marvellous blend of psychedelica, garage and space rock to Corner Hotel and set the place on fire on Tuesday night. The band who call Perth home have been on the road as part of Laneway Festival since late January. Last month also saw them release their highly acclaimed sixth studio album Man It Feels Like Space Again.
The fact that they have six LPs and one EP at their disposal means that choosing a setlist must be difficult task for them. It also means that when you buy a ticket to see Pond, you can be assured that you're going to see a diverse range of new and old material.
They opened up the night with 'Waiting Around For Grace' from their latest release. The energy inside Corner Hotel intensified the moment they stepped on the stage and their magnetic charisma and aura were well in force for the entire night. Their stellar opening was followed by 'Elvis Flaming Star', also from their new album. The crowd grooved as they were swept up in Pond's obvious love for performing and being on stage. Other set highlights included 'Zond', 'Giant Tortoise' and 'You Broke My Cool'.
Pond proved why they are one of the best psychedelic bands making waves right now. What sets them apart though in their infectious love for what they do.
