Now Playing: Loon Lake – ‘Surfin’

Thursday, February 26, 2015

Victorian surf-pop rockers Loon Lake are back with an infectious follow up to their 2013 full length release “Gloamer”. The single “Surfin” conjures memories of summer days that haven’t even happened yet, with a catchy upbeat vibe and hooks that could catch Jaws.  At just over 2 and a half minutes, Surfin' is primed to hit the airwaves again in a big way.  Borrowing sounds from the last 3 decades of pop, punk and thrash “Surfin” ties them all together well in a modern-surf-rock fashion.  Lyrically the song automatically puts a picture in your head, and whilst nothing extraordinarily insightful, does compliment the song perfectly.

Stepping up to the plate and taking on recording and producing duties themselves, Loon Lake have stripped right back to their basic roots for the new single and upcoming tours. Singer Sam Nolan was quoted in a recent press release saying;

“We had made a plan to return to how we used to do things, to just jam out to anything that seemed like fun,”

A quote that fits Surfin’ beautifully, as the single really comes across as a band that is really enjoying their music, and wants to share the fun with an audience.

With line-up changes and persistent throat problems recently forcing singer Sam Nolan into surgery, it’s been a rough 18 months for the band. Drummer Nick Nolan replacing Daniel Bull on Lead guitar, and technician Rick now on the skins, Loon Lake are set to bring their intimate live set to a stripped back 2 date single release tour on the Australian east coast.  Be sure to check them out!
