NEW MUSIC: Travi$ Scott - 'Antidote'

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

It was only earlier this month that Travi$ Scott unleashed '3500' (featuring Future and 2 Chainz) to the world. He's back again, this time with 'Antidote'. The release of new sounds is leading up the release of his highly anticipated debut album Rodeo, rumoured to be dropping soon. The cover art of 'Antidote' even hints at this with Travis writing "Rodeo..., Sincerely, Travis".

Whilst 'Antidote' won't be appearing on the album, it's still a solid track. The druggy banger sees him crooning such lines as 'pills is all we know' over autotune. Produced by WondaGirl and Eestbound, the production features dark undertones with thumping and weighty trap beats.

There has been controversy after the release of the track with Mike WiLL Made-It tweeting “N*ggas dropping songs trying to sound like @iHipsterLee (Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee)." Honestly, I don't think there has been any imitation of Mike WiLL's style, I mean - when did his production ever become unique? Mike WiLL's production is generic, plus neither Swae Lee or Slim Jimmy could spit like Travis did at the 3:25 mark. Let's face it, trap-esque beats in hip-hop didn't evolve after the release of Sremmlife this year, it's been a big thing in the industry even before Mike WiLL was making big dollars from it.

Mike WiLL has denied that the tweet was a knock at Travis, but it's kinda suss considering he did tweet it straight after Travis tweeted the link to his new track.

Keep killin' it Travis.
