Sable the Perth producer, who you might remember from his hit song “Feels So Good” that dropped late in 2014 has come through with his latest single “One and Only”, and is as head turning and unexpected as ever, in a good way.
The song revolves around an internet relationship, Sable states that the songs “focus is on the relationships people build online and then the feelings of attachment they develop from that.” I personally love that this song has a deeper meaning behind it and that Sable has used this story as an influence, which you can feel in his production and vocals.
This song is the first time Sable has used his own voice, in a filtered auto tuned voice that sounds like a female cartoon character, which goes which the whole internet love meaning. Whilst the vocals may seem to slide well into the overall aesthetic, and I appreciate his experimentation, I just can’t bring myself to enjoy the vocals, and I feel a feature would have served the song better.
The production however is pretty amazing, it is happy; with k-pop inspired vocals that reflect the hard work that must have gone into mixing this song. Sable has definitely proved himself as a diverse and surprising artist that enjoys experimenting and pushing boundaries and using influences outside of the usual circle which is great. The song has some great chime synths mixed in with the amazing production had me drawn in, especially by the great intro.
This song is the most kawaii thing to come from Perth since those baby meerkats at the zoo I saw early this year.
