FEATURE: Local Acts to Watch Out For

Aurora:
Originally a 5 piece stoner rock riff machine, now a stripped back mellower, gritty blues acoustic rock duo, Aurora provide heartfelt and soulful tune after tune full of quality song writing. A talented duo playing solidly crafted catchy tales through song, they regularly hit the Melbourne café and pub live scene. Grab a free download of their latest 5 track album The Collective plus more here.
Batpiss:
From the dark depths of Melbourne’s corners and alleyways comes 3 piece garage alt-rock band Batpiss. With a 3rdalbum released June 30, Biomass, they have a huge sound and an even bigger live show full of energy. Slightly off centre grungy goodness with a touch of sludge, they’re currently touring nationally to promote.
Hadal Maw:
Fresh from the Dead of Winter festival in Brisbane, brutal technical death metal 5 piece Hadal Maw are currently recording their second album. With complicated and seriously heavy structured soundscapes and an intensity to match the best of them, Hadal Maw regularly gig around Australia. Catch them if you enjoy bands like Psycroptic (Aus), Origin (USA) and Death (USA)
Loon Lake:
An unpretentious Indie rock/pop group hailing from Melbourne, Loon Lake put out catchy, feel good, upbeat tunes with an honest and raw feel. Recent single Just Now and tours have proven Loon Lake to be worth a listen or two, check out Just Now at
Metalstorm:
2014’s I - Saeculum Obscurum (recorded by Melbourne heavyweight Jason Fuller – Bloodduster/Goatsound records) saw Melbourne’s own Metalstorm slam back onto the local stage with their second recording with 4 tracks certain to cause a bit of whiplash. Old school holistic thrash coupled with a distinct tight punchy modern metal flavour, Metalstorm provide a huge sounding mix of metal influences from the past 30 years. Vinyl lovers can pick up a limited edition “shattered blue” copy here as well as the standard bandcamp pay what you may dealio for a digital copy.
