The hottest new show in Melbourne, We Will Rock You, is where you want to be this spring.
After its incredible success in the UK — which includes over 3600 performances and 6 million tickets sold (16 million internationally) — the show has made its way Downunder and is ready to impress. You know that with all the incredible success the show has had back in the UK you're going to be in store for a real treat.
The intriguing plot features two passionate rebels who are desperate to save rock and roll from the corporations. The musical shows the trials and tribulations they go through to fight for what they believe in. It's impossible not to get attached to what they're doing, and you'll be cheering them on along the way. One of the best things about the script by Ben Elton is that it has been modernised to cater to young audiences. This allows the young and old to all come together and enjoy the show. The storyline is also humorous and will keep you laughing throughout. It's also not very predictable so it will have you on your toes.
The musical features approximately 24 of Queen's greatest hits, including everything from the self-titled 'We Will Rock You', 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'Radio Ga Ga', 'Under Pressure', and 'Don't Stop Me Now'. Each rendition of the songs will make you want to sing-a-along with the talented members of the band and performers. The musical also features the soaring and powerful vocals of former Australian Idol winner Casey Donovan. Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor were both supervisors of the original production, so you know the musical has been 'Queen Approved'. The band during the show remains barely visible, mostly hiding above on a floating stage.
The script and the incredible sounds of the band come together beautifully to ensure that they marry up together. You will find yourself immersed in this captivating tale, and it will have you hooked along the way.
Be sure to catch We Will Rock You while it is in down over the spring period. The show is playing at the Regent Theatre from September 1st to October 30th, and you can score tickets for as low as $69.90 (practically a steal if you ask me). The show is on Tuesdays (7 pm) Wednesday to Saturday (8 pm), Saturday matinee (2 pm) and Sunday (1 pm and 6 pm).
