It's only the start of year, but Cloves has been busy. Not only did she play a massive showcase recently, today she unleashed the video for her stunning single 'Better Now' (watch it below!). We had the chance to ask her a few questions about the new single, her 2016, and what she has cooking up this year.
Congratulations on the release of your new single ‘Better Now’, what was the creative process like putting it together?
It started with Justin and I writing the song together in London. I then went into the studio to re-record the demo with the idea of emphasising the bitter sweet juxtaposition of the track through the production. Keeping the verses very much like the EP, stripped back and melancholy and then having the chorus hit grittier and blunter.
What inspired the track?
The track was inspired by the breakdown of a long-term relationship. The internal conflict of feeling obligated to stay with someone and the desire to be alone.
You’re releasing your debut album in 2017, is there anything you can share about it?
I think the hits on the chorus of ‘Better Now’ are a good taster of the direction the album has taken. It’s defiantly a lot blunter and tougher lyrically and sonically from the EP.
You’ve done some major things in 2016, what has been your highlight?
I would say my highlight of 2016 has been working on the album. Its been challenging but also very fulfilling.
Apart from your album, what else are you looking forward to in the new year?
Touring because I love to travel. I would really love to visit somewhere in Asia this year!
What has been some of your favourite songs from 2016?
The Michael Kiwanuka ‘Love and Hate’ album was a favourite of mine. I love that it feels quite eclectic and the production is beautifully intricate.
