All Our Exes Live In Texas is what we need in Australian music right now — they're fun, charismatic, incredible live performers and create beautiful folk music. Before heading off to the states for shows in NYC and LA, Hannah Crofts reflected on some of her favourite tunes.
'Just Ace' by Grinspoon – I have a memory of going to my first party with my best friend Pippa, wearing a dog collar, an Astro Boy t-shirt with my short spiky hair jumping up and down to this song in a living room. I still go red in the face anytime I see Phil Jamieson.
What song is your ultimate party track?
'Fantasy' by Mariah Carey. I bloody love Mariah, and this song always makes me dance.
What song do you listen to before you jump on stage?
'Here Come The Girls' – Toussaint. On our last tour, we walked on stage to this song – it was the first tour we have been lucky enough to do with a band, and our drummer and bass player would walk on first dancing.
What song would you make your theme song?
My life theme song is 'Bad Decisions' by Bitch Prefect. Haha literally sums me and my decisions up. It’s the song I sing to myself when I have to have to go to the emergency room for slicing open my finger (I just really wanted a bagel!) or leaving my wallet on top of the car in Ireland and nearly losing everything I own.
What song reminds you of your first heartbreak?
Oh gwad. Anything by the Get Up Kids. I broke up with my first boyfriend just before highschool ended – I was listening to a lot of Get Up Kids, Green Day, Jebediah, Killing Heidi…
What do you have on repeat right now?
Gregory Allan Isakov / Margaret Glaspy. Both of those records I listen to once a day I think. Both of those musicians have incredible lyrics, and instrumentation…they are both incredibly brilliant records that hit me in my heart!
What song is your guilty pleasure?
'Ho Hey!' By the cast of Nashville. It’s the song I wish I’d written – that I put on my headphones when I walk to and from work and always gives me shivers. I also have a dream that we will one day be on Nashville!!
