Single Review: Dave – '100Ms'

Tuesday, June 6, 2017

Following a massive 2016, which included the incredible Six Paths EP, '100Ms' is Daves third release of this year after the 8-bit banger 'Revenge' and the piano-laden 'Samantha' featuring J Hus.

Dave is no stranger to spitting thought-provoking raps over up-tempo grime beats, and with every new song, he continues to prove himself a versatile and creative MC. '100Ms', produced by SG Lewis, is no exception, showcasing what the young MC has to offer the grime scene. SG makes a cameo along with, surprisingly, Sam Smith, in a music video that shows the unglamorous side of the daily grind.

With the track name '100Ms' referencing money, the song is an anthem for those striving for more, and SG drives home the hard-hitting message by leaning a little more towards grime than on Dave’s other recent tracks.

On '100Ms', Dave puts forth his aim for his career; to earn a '100Ms'. His fast-paced raps weave in and out the slapping beat with soccer references, his new found attention from girls and friends, and his determination for his raps to earn him those '100Ms'. His flow is impeccable and shows talent beyond his years. He even manages to name-drop Drake without actually name-dropping Drake.

Dave is back in the studio working on his debut album with producer Fraser T Smith. Hopefully, this isn’t too far off, and having set the bar with '100Ms', there’s no doubt that Dave will continue to raise it.
