Feature: Local Artists We're Lovin' Right Now – BIGSOUND Edition

Monday, September 4, 2017

As you’ve probably noticed, we have been inactive for the last week. Well, get pumped, as we’re back again! To get back into the swing of things, I’ve rounded some killer tracks that have dropped since we've been down and out. All the below artists will also be appearing at BIGSOUND, so if you’re in Brissie, be sure to head over and catch their sets. If you’re like me and staying home, have no fear, I know it sucks, but we can jam the below tracks and feel like we’re there… well, kinda.

Good luck to all the artists heading to BIGSOUND! You got this.

This is the first taste of his new music since 2014 (it’s hard to believe it’s been that long!). It’s hard not to love this one — it’s absolutely infectious. It also has theatrical vibes and is very dynamic. He’s been playing this one on the road for almost six to seven years and has finally released it as a single. You can catch him tomorrow 11:30pm at Ric's Big Backyard and on Thursday 7th September 11:40pm at The Foundry

Byron Bay’s very own PLTS (FYI, it’s pronounced as Pilots) have dropped a brand new track. ‘Spill’ is a heavy number with emotionally charged lyricism. This is the first track I have ever heard by PLTS, and I’m intrigued. I’ll be keeping an eye (and an ear) out for them and can’t wait to see what they do next. They’ll be playing The ZOO 8:50pm tomorrow as well as The Brightside on Thursday 7th September 9:10pm.

According to Caiti Baker, ‘I Won’t Sleep’ is about finding her identity after going through CFS. She says in a statement, “In a way, it's a celebration of having clarity and being present”. Caiti’s debut album Zinc is set for release on 6th October, so mark it in your calendar and stay tuned for some magic coming your way very soon. She will be appearing tomorrow 11:40pm at Laruche and on Wednesday 6th September 10pm at Empire Hotel.

Next up is ‘Messed Up’ by Wild Honey. I highly recommend that you add this one to your spring playlists right now! Though it may seem like it’s light carefree listening, if you listen carefully, you’ll observe some deep lyrics that question routine and the fear of losing time. They’ll be playing two showcases, the first on Tuesday at The Flying Cock, and the second on Thursday 7th September at The Foundry.

Alex the Astronaut recently played this one on triple j’s Like A Version, and it’s receiving a lot of love. Described as a coming of age track, ‘Not Worth Hiding’ is about finding herself and learning how to embrace who she is. It’s a magical track and we expect her to take the rest of the year by storm. Alex the Astronaut will be playing on Thursday 10:40pm at Oh Hello!.

Whenever Golden Vessel drops new tunes, I’m always confident it’s going to be good, and ‘Less~More’ sees him deliver once again. The track is hypnotic, and he has created intricate and stunning soundscapes that complement the smooth vocals of duo Okbadlands ever so beautifully. Golden Vessel’s BIGSOUND showcase will take place tomorrow Tuesday 11:20pm at TBC Club.
