Feature: We Play 'What Song...' with Jodi Phillis from The Clouds

Monday, October 30, 2017

Jodi Phillis took some time out from The Clouds' busy tour schedule to share some of her favourite tracks with us. Find out where you can catch The Clouds below!

What song reminds you of your youth?
There are many songs I can remember from my childhood, including songs by The Beatles, The Carpenters, Brazil ’66, Simon and Garfunkle….but the 1 song that really jumps out as being the sound of my youth is ‘Happy Together’ by The Turtles. I lived in Los Angeles until I was 6, so I was surrounded by the west coast sound.

What song is your ultimate party track?
At the moment, the favourite party music at our house is anything by Daft Punk, Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams. That album they did together with ‘Lose Yourself to Dance’ and ‘Lucky’ is so incredibly cool and groovy. I also love to have a good old, uninhibited dance to Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, or any heavy dubstep tracks by Skrillex!

What song do you listen to before you jump on stage?
No music in particular….in fact silence is preferable at that point.

What song would you make your theme song?
Somedays it’s ‘My Old Man’ by Joni Mitchell, sometimes it’s ‘Feelin’ Groovy’ by Simon and Garfunkle, sometimes it’s the theme music from The Benny Hill Show and other days it might be something like Across the Universe by The Beatles or ‘’Til I Die’ by The Beach Boys. I wrote a song called ‘Creature of Love’ which was performed by The Glamma Rays. It is a pretty pure description of what makes me tick, so perhaps that is my theme song.

What song reminds you of your first heartbreak?
'More than a Feeling' by Boston

What do you have on repeat right now?
Anything by Nina Simone, the Wild at Heart soundtrack and Erik Satie’s gorgeous piano pieces have been on high rotation at our place for a while now, among many other incredible musical creations by all kinds of humans…..Oh, plus a fantastic song by Rihanna called Consideration which I can’t stop listening to.
