Feature: The Ingredients of Odette

Tuesday, January 23, 2018

Odette is currently getting ready for her sold-out east coast tour, which is coming up next month! 2017 was a massive year for the talented singer-songwriter. She unleashed two incredible singles, 'Collide' and 'Watch Me Read You', and captivated music fans far and wide. Odette gives us a little inside into the ingredients that make up her as an artist.

My Piano:
I have an out of tune upright that I’ve been playing since I was a little kid. I wrote my first song on it at around eight years old and I plan to be writing on it when I’m eighty.

Writing is a means of confronting and processing my experiences. It lets me view something from every angle. It’s cathartic and entirely consuming. I don’t think I could stop if I tried.

Joanna Newsom:
Joy of life am I right? But in all seriousness, her music changed my entire understanding of what it means to be a storyteller. The unending depth of her words never ceases to absolutely floor me.

Sometimes I just feel like an unending wheeze.

I love to travel with friends and I love to get lost in places I've never been before. I often end up stumbling upon strange places or things that really stick out to me. Usually, I'll end up writing notes in my phone, fragments of poems or songs on walks and I find it really refreshing to get out of the house and write like this.

Odette is playing on the below dates next month:
8th February - Brighton Up Bar, Sydney
9th February - Brighton Up Bar, Sydney
10th February - By The Water, Canberra
15th February - The Gasometer (upstairs), Melbourne
16th February - The Gasometer (upstairs), Melbourne
