Feature: We Play 'What Song...' with Demo Taped

Tuesday, January 16, 2018

Demo Taped is on track to have a massive 2018. The up-and-comer from Atlanta has caught the world's attention with his smooth vocals and stunning melodies. Late last year, he also unleashed his single 'Pack of Gum' (listen below). Before he plays SXSW 2018, Demo Taped shares some of his favourite songs with us.

What song reminds you of your youth?
Definitely 'HoppĂpolla' by Sigur Ros. I remember finding them when I was in middle school and just being blown away. I’ve only recently started looking into the actual English translations of the songs, but the fact that I can listen and not understand a word, but still feel something speaks to the power of music.

What song would you love to sample?
I really want to sample any song by Curtis Mayfield. If we’re getting into specifics, 'Sparkle' is the one I would love to work with.

What song did you last listen to?
I just got through listening to 'Morning' by Francis and the Lights. It’s a beautiful intro track to a great project. That beginning piano gets to me every time!

What song do you wish you collaborated on?
'What More Can I Say' by NxWorries. That track is just whole. Love the strings in that joint so much. Honestly, I just want to go back in time and be in the room with Knxwledge and Anderson .Paak while they were working on that whole project.

What song is your ultimate party track?
I gotta go with 'ALASKA' off of Saturation III. That track is just heavy. S/O 2 Brockhampton !!!

What song was your favourite track of last year?
This is a tough question … I’m going to go with 'For Sondra (It Means The World To Me)' by Passion Pit. First time I heard that song I cried. It’s beautiful. Honestly, Tremendous Sea of Love was one of my favorite albums of the year because I just feel it. From the subject matter to the way it was released, It just blew me away. I also really admire Michael Angelakos’ mental health advocacy.
