Now Playing: Years & Years – 'Sanctify'

Wednesday, March 21, 2018

It’s the year of eagerly-awaiting the return of so many bands whose music has been dormant for too long — Years & Years is no exception. The trio’s debut album Communion was released in 2015. Finally, three years later, we have 'Sanctify' as a sneak peek of the album to come later in the year.

'Sanctify' has a great beat, a kind of quiet epicness (the musical oxymoron which underpins all of Years & Years’s songs) and, as usual, lyrics which don’t hide their exploration of sexuality. You can listen to this song as a dance track, or delve into the lyricism—‘you don’t have to be straight with me/ I see what’s underneath your mask’ is just one line we can spend ages extrapolating.

'Sanctify' is an exciting first release — a great promise for what’s to come.
