WAYI (pronounced wa-yee) has been creating waves this year, especially after the release of her debut single 'The Way I Am'. She's back again with 'Temporary', which is a preview of her upcoming debut EP Love in Progress. WAYI takes us through the story behind her new single.
I wrote ’Temporary'... about a year ago. I think it was a day when my ex’s picture appeared on my social media. I clicked on his page and saw his status: in a relationship. I didn't really know how to feel about it so I took my guitar and started singing words I would say to him if he was right in front of me at that moment. That's when I was like: I get that you are "trying" to have a "serious" relationship here so I'll leave you alone, but I still need to get this out of my chest! And that's how my first phrase popped out: 'Ok, I get it!'
The story behind ‘Temporary' is... the up above explanation but part two is that: I can be a little jealous when it comes to things or people who are close to me. It sounds super possessive but I'm really not. My jealousy never hurt nobody :-)
My favourite lyric is... "You've got a new girl hanging out in the city / But it's nothing compared to what we once had so pardon my manners / When I say that your love ain't real, it's trash. Steadily waiting for a clash." The reason why this is my favorite lyric is because when I saw them together, I always felt like that: like their relationship looked boring and not genuine. So I was counting the days till it clashed.
It was made... when I finally realised what my worth was... Why would I spend another minute of my life crying over someone who doesn't deserve my time? That's when my chorus was fully written.
My main inspiration was... my ex....................
It sounds best... when you're in bath surrounded by candle lights and white wine in your hand. Also when you're driving in your car at night. Try it!
