Kailee Morgue
continues to wow the world with her enchanting songwriting and hypnotic tunes — recently it was her single 'Siren' that left us all absolutely entranced  We had the chance to ask her about the single, other art forms and experimenting with sounds.

Congrats on the release of your single ‘Siren’ — how would you describe the story behind the track?

'Siren' takes on the story of the mythological creatures of the sea that would lure in sailors with their singing voice. I took that and modernized it to portray feelings of lust and not being able to resist someone.

The track’s connection to Greek mythology is really interesting, what do you enjoy about this area?

I’m honestly not sure why I’m so drawn to this topic. I think I just love the challenge of storytelling through lyrics rather than writing about myself sometimes.

What other art forms outside of music inspire you when writing new music?

I love painting, drawing, writing poems. I genuinely enjoy every art form. Even if I’m not very good at it, I have a deep appreciation for it.

Your version of 'dark pop' is so captivating and unique — how would you describe the ingredients of your sound?

I never know how to answer this question because I don’t ever try to have a certain sound or feeling when I’m walking into a session! I like mixing unsettling/uncomfortable sounds with my softer voice and lyrics, so that has been a constant.

Are there any sounds that you would love to experiment with in the future?

I would love to do a few songs that are more rock/alternative and maybe experience with some 80s type drums. I’m honestly all over the place with experimenting right now!

The last year has been so busy for you, what's been some of your favourite highlights so far?

So far I’ve really enjoyed learning about music and the industry, and I've gotten to make music with some super talented people. Of course festival season was a highlight as well. I hope I do some next year cause it was amazing!

The music video for 'Siren' is set to premiere via Nylon this Friday 14/9. You can check out a sneaky teaser for the clip below via her Twitter:
