Toronto-based up-and-comer GRAE has just shared her impressive debut single 'New Girl'. The R&B-influenced song features a blend of dreamy vocals and honest lyricism. It's an exciting start for the newcomer and we're excited to hear what else she has planned for this year. Learn more about 'New Girl' with GRAE below.
I wrote ‘New Girl’... while doing my makeup one day after finding out some information about my past relationship and what my ex was up too.
The story behind ‘New Girl'... is realizing your ex is dating the exact girl he told you not to worry about when you were together.
My favourite lyric is... “is she the one you told me not to worry about?” because it’s just so real, and exactly what was going through my head at the time.
It was made... in a home studio with my producer KYAN. We recorded 'New Girl' first out of the EP songs, so it definitely has a special place in my heart.
My main inspiration was... failed relationships, and of course my high school ex. I see it happen a lot, an ex-partner who ends up being with that same person they claimed to have nothing with. This song is for all the people who have been in that position.
It sounds best... listening to 'New Girl' when you’re pissed off at your ex! You know, when you’re in the car with your girlfriends and you all just wanna shout some shit to get over that trashy relationship. 💁🏼♀️. That’s what 'New Girl' is for.
