Icelandic up-and-coming pop queen Hildur knows how to create music that will make you feel and her EP Intuition, which is out tomorrow (June 28th) via Anti Fragile Music, will take you on an emotional journey that you won't forget. Featuring five heartfelt and poignant tracks, the EP inspires listeners to not be afraid of what they are feeling inside and to instead channel their fears and doubts in a way that's healthy and positive. Though the EP sees Hildur embrace her vulnerable side, it's through her raw and emotional words that listeners will find comfort.
Intuition opens with the soothing yet building sounds of 'Picture Perfect'. The opening portion features a delicate thumping sound, but by the time you reach the mid-point of the song, layered electronic beats begin to take over. 'Picture Perfect' is an all-consuming slice of pop perfection. The track marks a powerful and lifting start to the EP. Next up is 'Everyday', which features shifting beats that resemble a heartbeat. On the track, Hildur reaffirms that it's okay to not feel okay, and it's normal to feel down. The words, "I thought I was happy and I / thought I was living my best life / but there's always this thing inside," are fuelled by a burning feeling inside. Listening to 'Everyday' makes you want to dance away the pain.
Just like the first two tracks that came before, '1993' encourages listeners to find their inner strength. The inspiring song is about feeling full of self-doubt and being unclear about the direction that you want to take. Featuring soaring production and composed vocals, '1993' will fill you with hope. In a feature we did with Hildur in April, she said on the track, "I feel like this is a fast forward autobiography in a song. It’s based around this phrase “I wish the 5-year-old me could see” that I keep telling myself when I feel insecure or unsure that I’m actually doing something the 5-year-old me would be proud of. "
The next track, 'Woman At War', appears as a plea for equality. Though the track features stirring words, it has a calming and meditative quality. The song is about finding the strength to keep pushing and fighting through obstacles.
The EP closes with the fresh sounds of 'Work'. The track is full of the feelings you get from basking in the sunshine. Bursting with love, the track stars enticing lyrics such as, "I don't want to waste this love on fear and hesitation / Baby let's do all the things from our imagination." 'Work' spurs you to knock your walls down and let love in.
If you are looking for an EP that's going to fill you with love, strength and hope, look no further than Intuition.
