Feature: Breaking the Ice with Chela

LA-based Australian-Filipino artist Chela this week shared her stunning new offering 'Losing Belief', released via Goldroom and R.A.C's new LA label Minerva Music. Along with sharing the track, she also unveiled the music video, which she stars in, self-directed and choreographed. To celebrate the release of 'Losing Belief', Chela took some time out to answer some quick-fire q's for us.

What have you been up to today?
10am morning meeting with my production team for a music video I’m directing for Goldroom this weekend, 12pm writing session with fellow-Perth artist Zan at Dropbox Studios in Frogtown, 8pm fitting with local designer Remordur for an upcoming shoot.

Last song you listened to?
The masterpiece that Zan and I wrote today! We’re very proud of it.

Best gift you've ever received?
My sister Nicole surprising me in Thailand for my 21st birthday at the end of a solo world trip.

Best book you've read?
‘The China Study’ by Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Thomas M. Campbell II really stayed with me, and
changed the way I perceived the consumption of animal products in a positive way.

Dream holiday spot?
I dream of seeing the Northern Lights one day!

What kind of secret society would you start?
One where the members could never lie to one another.

Favourite dinosaur?
The Stegoceras, so cute and a herbivore!

When you survive the apocalypse, what will be your first job?
Having babies if possible!

Last Youtube video you watched?
Zan and I watched ‘Void’ by Kilo Kish today and it unexpectedly made us feel terrified, in a good way.

Have you ever texted the wrong person?
Of course! It never got me in trouble though, sorry!

Favourite director?
Stanley Kubrick!

Three pet peeves?
Highly audible masticating, slow driving and when people let their pets have dirty eyes.

Last dream that you can remember?
I dreamt that I had a penis!

Favourite hiding spot?
Off the grid, deep in nature, far from cellular connection.

Favourite music video?
Tame Impala’s The Less I Know The Better’ produced by Canada is a masterpiece.

What ice cream flavour would you invent?
Mole sauce ice cream!

What planet would you move to?
If there’s one out there just like Earth before humans destroyed it, take me there! I’ll treat it kindly.

Favourite soundtrack?
Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet

Title of your future memoir?
Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen
