Feature: The Anatomy of 'Do What You Feel Like' with Suns Up

Thursday, July 25, 2019

Earlier this month saw Sussex band Suns Up share their summer slow-jam 'Do What You Feel Like'. Their glowing new track is exactly what you want to be blasting on-repeat all weekend. To celebrate its release, David Kelly from the band dived into the single for us below.

I wrote ‘Do What You Feel Like'… One late night in my living room, I had the chord sequence stuck in my head and when that happens I know I've got something worth working on. I actually sung the chorus first and once I had those words I knew what I had to write about.

The story behind ‘Do What You Feel Like’ is… To not be scared to take risks and don't be afraid to do something "just because it makes you feel good".

My favourite lyric is... "Why don't we dare? We're just lonely hearts under a sun"

It was made... Between a lovely countryside studio and in Wales with our producer Gethin Pearson.

Our main inspiration was... There seems to be a lot of pent up angst in people today; I see it at work, I see it on social media. I think it's important for people to know it's ok to do what they want every once in a while and not be afraid of what anyone else thinks.

It sounds best... Driving with your mates, windows down, volume on full.
