Squid are continuing their takeover, this time sharing their brand new single 'The Cleaner'. The single last week was also joined by exciting news that they'll be releasing their EP Town Centre on September 6th via Dan Carey's Speedy Wunderground label.
Their robust new single features an enthralling fusion of disco-punk and their unique take on post-punk. The track was inspired by the band's move from Brighton to London — with 'The Cleaner' exploring the reality of working life, but also the desire to break away from this tiring cycle. The track has lyrics like, "Keep me extra time and keep it working extra hours so I can dance for you." The track also describes the mundanity of the subject matter's life, "I'm a cleaner yes and I can sweep that shop," and "On the floor as you find it there with a brush and mop."
Spanning over seven-and-a-half minutes, the track takes listeners on a journey aided by Squid's dynamic soundscapes — including feverish guitar lines, frantic drums, and sharp vocals. Across the track's duration, we're greeted by various twists and turns, each as intriguing as the next.
