Ghanian-born, Australian-based Genesis Owusu has returned with another taste of his highly-anticipated debut album with ‘Gold Chains’. The album, Smiling With No Teeth, is due for release next month on March 5th.
He told The FADER that ‘Gold Chains’ came to him after he began reflecting on his job as an artist and how easily it can make one feel like a commodity.
He said, “'Gold Chains' got me thinking about the flaws of being in a profession where, more and more, you have to be the product, rather than just the provider of the product, and public misconceptions about how luxurious that is.”
Genesis Owusu has also shared the accompanying music video for the track, which were directed by Riley Blakeway. The visual conveys the song’s message about how things don’t always appear as they seem and shiny things don’t always give you the level of happiness that you think they will.
